DIETS ARE OUT

LIFESTYLE IS IN

FRUITEATOX

Start the day perfec-tea-ly with a cup of Fruiteatox Lemon Daytox tea accompanied by a smoked salmon and scrambled egg breakfast – an absolutely classic pairing if you ask us.

Packed with flavour and nutrition this combination will give you a boost to the day like no other!  You’ll be able to meet these guys in the Vitali-Tea Garden at the Fes-Tea-Val at Chiswick House. Their moto of stop the diet and start a lifestyle is also very apt!

GIANT FLOWERING TEA BULBS

WORTH THE 1000 YEAR WAIT

CHOI TIME

There is just something very invigorating about drinking giant flowering tea. For those of you who haven’t tried it before, it is a must and quite the experience.

This absolute gem from Choi Time is called ‘Thousand Year Red’. We aren’t sure if this means that we have to wait a 1000 years for our next cup but we hope not so take your opportunity to try it whilst you can at Fes-Tea-Val.

AFTERNOON TEA

The amount of brilliant afternoon teas out there mean that we are asking the question, ‘Why aren’t there more days in the week?’ – we are going to get a petition going!

The afternoon craze has been steeping the nation and to help you choose the best one for you we have 3 of our favourites listed here:

EXACTLY LIKE

NOTHING ELSE

ST ERMINS

Nestled at the end of a tree-lined courtyard in the heart of Westminster, St. Ermin’s an independent four-star deluxe hotel, offers guests a relaxing environment where they can unwind and be themselves.

Afternoon tea is a speciality at the St. Ermin’s Hotel, served every afternoon in the beautiful, elegant first floor mezzanine Tea Lounge. With seasonal menus available year round – including ‘Honey Afternoon Tea’ in September, a summer selection of sweet and savoury treats and wonderful winter menu running throughout the Christmas period – Afternoon Tea is always a sparkling occasion at the St. Ermin’s.

JUST SO

QUINTESSENTIALLY BRITISH

THE LYGON ARMS

What could be more quintessentially English than Afternoon Tea in the Cotswolds. At The Lygon Arms, this traditional past-time is served against the backdrop of over 600 years of history.

Afternoon Tea is served in the Courtyard or in one of our seven cosy Lounges, so you can savour this national past-time, whatever the weather. Our fruit scones with clotted cream and puddings are a real indulgence for any sweet tooth. Classic finger sandwiches and a selection of pastries are prepared daily by our own in-house team.

FRENCH CUISINE

LEADING THE WAY IN TEA

CLUB GASCON

This is such a luxury tea experience we have to recommend it to you. Low-key, sophisticated and consistently rated as one of London’s best restaurants, this Michelin-starred restaurant is an intimate and chic venue with marble walls, wooden floors, big mirrors and olive-green banquettes. Specialised in imaginative cuisine from the South West of France, it offers a menu of mouth-watering selections. Chef Pascal Aussignac’s talent with seasonal produce, and his ability to bring ingredients together, show in every dish.

Club Gascon menus could be complimented by a wine or tea pairing selected by Julien Sarrasin (3rd UK sommelier of the year 2017).

Fresh ‘n’ Tast-tea

We are always on the look out for new innovations in tea – after all, with so many thousands of varieties of teas out there why drink the same old cuppa everyday? The products we list in this section are teas which we recommend you add to your wish list and be sure to check out at Fes-Tea-Val! Some products are about innovating the very way we take tea whilst other products are unique single estate teas which you are unlikely to have ever tried. We think the key to being a tea lover is having an open mind and trying new products – if you try any of our recommendations take a photo and be sure to tag us on social media @Nationalteaday.
WE BET YOU HAVEN’T HAD TEA FROM

THIS COUNTRY BEFORE

GREK TEA

India? China? Kenya? No, no no and it turns out that the next top tea growing destination is Greece!

Famed for so many other delicacies than tea we were very pleasantly surprised to try this glorious Lemon Verbena tea from Grek Tea.

From the Greek Mountains this is fairly new to the U.K. and we have to say a welcome addition.

INNOVATION

FROM THE TOP

PG TIPS DAIRY FREE

So many of the products you read about on this blog are from small companies so it is a welcome change to show you some serious innovations from the U.K’s leading tea provider by volume.

The team at PG tips have developed a dairy free range which is specifally made to taste better with diary free alternatives to milk – that’s an-udder level of innovation if you ask us!

BOU-TEA-QUE

Tea is fashionable. It is good for you, much trendier than coffee and there is so much more scope to be original compared to other drinks! Whilst we love writing about which teas to drink, once you have your cuppa ready why not take a minute to think about how you can look sheek in the Bou-tea-que. Tea after all is a stalwart of British culture, of socialising and of fashion back up your gourmet tea with a look to match.
And THE SILVER PRIZE GOES TO…

CHISWICK AUCTION

Tea just can’t be drunk without tea ware. Giving attendees the inside line of the history of silver tea ware at FesTeaVal are Chiswick Auctions. John Rogers is Head of Silver & Objects of Vertu and Dr. Jim Peake leads our Ceramics & Glass department. They will be on hand to offer complimentary, no obligation valuations and John will also be delivering a talk on the Sunday on the history of tea and silverware.
TOTALLY ART-TEA

CHARLOTTE GERRARD

Next time you are sipping a cuppa pondering the world why not look at something very intriguing instead. We just think there is still a lot to be said for looking at a quali-tea piece of art work when drinking tea. If this is your thing then check out the artist Charlotte Gerrard who will be in the Bou-tea-que at Fes-Tea-Val exhibiting her marvellous collection of works.

TEA ‘N’ TIPPLE

This weeks recommendations for Tea ‘n’ Tipple are some unique twists on absolute classics. This is what in our view, Tea ‘n’ Tipple is all about, innovation and experimentation on existing ideas! The idea that it was tea or alcohol long consigned to the past and now we can look forward to the age of Tea AND Tipple. The fact is that tea has an incredible amount in common with wine as they both share similar flavour profiles and we really recommend learning with wine in order to improve your tea palate. The wonderful array of tea flavours mean that it can infuse Gins, Rums, Whiskeys and Vodka’s for an incredible twist of classic combinations. Be sure to experiment at home, take a photo and tag us @Nationalteaday.
AR-TEA-SAN CIDER

CRAFTY NECTAR

In our campaign to get you drinking better tea we come across some products which just wow us, not for their innovation, but because of their pure quality. Sampling Crafty Nectar’s cider was one of these moments where cross sector premiumisation and quality improvement was clear to see.

It’s crisp and most importantly very refreshing, just what you need after a day of tea tasting at FesTeaVal! This isn’t just one for tea lovers but more one for lovers of quality products anywhere.

TOFFEE?!

KIN VODKA

We weren’t sure to include this in our treat segment, our innovation segment or here in Tea ‘n’ Tipple! In the end we settled for here but it is also a treat and a great innovation. This beau-tea will be in Tea ‘n’ Tipple Boulevard at FesTeaVal and is a must try for vodka lovers as well as toffee lovers (we consider ourselves both!).

The strength and variety of flavours here mean this is great in tea cocktails as the flavours are able to marry up beautifully – try it 😛

TEA ‘N’ TREATS

Yes, tea is always on our mind! Once our appetite for tea is satisfied however our mind always turns towards what the best possible accompaniment will be! We do love the classic combination of a biscuit and English Breakfast tea but often we love to experiment too.

Whether it is biscuits, bakery, cakes or even Ice Cream there are so many incredible flavour combinations you can create by sampling different snacks with different tea.

After all what tastes amazing with a Darjeeling will have a very different profile with a Rooibos!

TREAT LEVEL MAXED OUT

BLISSS BARFI

There are treats, like a biscuit or a cake, and then there are TREATS. Blisss Barfi definitely fall within the latter capitalised version, these treats are some serious indulgence. This dessert of Indian origin has become a West London mainstay and very fashionable to have at functions and events.

These are just delightful and for those of you who have been living healthily and want to let loose National Tea Day weekend this is the way to do it in style.

A MEAL FOR KINGS AND LUCKILY YOU TOO

AUGUSTIN WAFFLE

Visitors to Tea ‘n’ Treat Village will do well to remember to stop off and try one of these (try stopping at one, more could easily slip down!). These waffles are a real European indulgence and served with a huge varie-tea of toppings will make the perfect treat for your day out.

Get a couple of these to go to accompany your cuppa and you and your friends will be able to waffle on for hours (see we can do non-tea puns terribly too).

PAIRINGS & RECIPES

Yes, tea is always on our mind! Once our appetite for tea is satisfied however our mind always turns towards what the best possible accompaniment will be! We do love the classic combination of a biscuit and English Breakfast tea but often we love to experiment too.

Whether it is biscuits, bakery, cakes or even Ice Cream there are so many incredible flavour combinations you can create by sampling different snacks with different tea. After all what tastes amazing with a Darjeeling will have a very different profile with a Rooibos!

A PAIRING WITH A KICK!

AAGRAH FOODS

If you have never tried tea and curry together then let me confirm for you now, it is fantastic. Two sets of very strong flavours coming together make for just a genius combination which dances in your mouth. We recommend pairing the Aagrah Balti Curry with a Green Tea which is able to match the complex combination of flavours on offer.

Visit the Aagrah Foods experience at Fes-Tea-Val to try out this delicious combination for yourself.

Ultimate tea and meat pairing

EAT WOZA

Meat Lovers, this one is most definitely for you.

Eat Woza provide Biltong and cured meats and we are going to let you in on a little secret, we have just the perfect pairing to create the ultimate taste combination.
